Art Deco Friedlander Building set for restoration, ground floor open to a tenant

By

Michael Andoniades, known for restoring historic buildings in St. Petersburg, bought the three-story Friedlander Building at Park Avenue and First Street in June. It was built in 1938–39 for Friedlander's Department Store and later housed True Value Hardware. He plans to restore the Art Deco front, build out the ground floor for a commercial tenant and add four apartments on the third floor.

"I don't like to do one project," he told LakeWalesNews.net. "I plan to do more in the community."

For founders: a downtown storefront like this may qualify for the Historic Restoration Façade Grant and other CRA programs. See the directory.
