Startup Night is October 21: legal strategy with Denise Tessier
By Jason Wade
Startup Night is back on Wednesday, October 21, and this one is aimed straight at the questions every new founder asks too late: what to file, what to sign, and what to leave alone until there is revenue.
What we will cover
Attorney Denise Tessier, Esq. walks through the legal side of starting up in plain language:
- Choosing an entity — LLC, S-corp or C-corp — without overpaying to set it up
- What to put in writing with a co-founder, on day one
- Contracts, invoices and getting paid without getting sued
- Protecting a name, a logo or an idea before you spend money marketing it
Bring your own question. The second half of the night is open floor, and the answers are usually the best part.

Where Founder Lab stands
Two quick updates while we have you:
- Mentor sign-ups are open. Sponsors can now pick the exact Founder Lab sessions they want to cover — Friday introductions, Saturday's twelve rotating 20-minute slots, or Sunday office hours — on the mentor calendar. Remember: every $100 sponsor mentors, speaks, helps or judges.
- Applications close February 12. Twenty participants of all ages will be chosen from the applicant pool. If you have been waiting for a sign, this is it — apply here.
See you on the 21st.
