Founder's Guide

Part 2 of 27

1. Start With the Problem, Not the LLC

Before registering anything, write one sentence:

We help [specific customer] solve [specific problem] by providing [specific product or service].

If you cannot complete that sentence clearly, keep working. "AI company" is not a business model. "Restaurant" is not a business model. "Marketing agency" is not a business model.

Weak: We provide innovative AI solutions.

Better: We automate appointment follow-up for independent dental offices so fewer potential patients disappear after requesting an appointment.

Weak: We are opening a restaurant.

Better: We serve fast, high-quality breakfast to downtown Lake Wales workers who need to be in and out in twenty minutes.

Specificity gives you something you can test. You should be able to answer:

  • Who buys this?
  • What problem are they already trying to solve?
  • What do they use now?
  • What does the problem cost them?
  • Why would they switch?
  • What will you charge?
  • How will the first ten customers find you?
  • Can you deliver it profitably?

If you do not know yet, that is normal. Your next job is to find out.
